Sprucing up your Home, One step at a Time

This week in sprucing up your home, we will work on the outdoors. Landscape is everything when it comes to the looks of your home. After all, the outside is what your sims' visitors will see first. Even the blandest of homes can go from single-tree out front dud to glorious exterior oasis stud!
I suggest your first step being bushes and flowers. Bushes can really make a year look great, and remember, no neighbors should be copycats! This simply means to change things up. If you find yourself constantly using the square bushes, try the rose bushes. Good placement for bushes is right alongside the home, near a door or at a spot ending a patch of flowers.
Speaking of flowers, flowers may just be the most colorful step! Flowers too look sgreat alongside the home, in between bushes! But I don't mean for you to start placing bush; flower; bush; flower oh no! Keep the flowers near each other. Also, be sure to mix up the colors! Use a variety of flowers, red and white, yellow and orange, the possibilities are endless!
Now, after putting down your bushes and flowers, you may decide that the alone look too empty. A great addition to your flower beds is the flower boxes. Found in the fence section, these boxes are a great divider between your walkway and your garden. Is there a better keep off the flowers sign then that?
Another cool thing to do with your flowers can be to layer them. Using the cheat "move_objects on" you can place two different flowers on top of each other making a beautiful array of colors!
And what would a yard be without trees? Depending on your lot, a good use of trees is usually 1 to 2 in the front and 2 to 4 in the back, however it's all up to you! And you don't necessarily have to use the same type of tree. A pine tree and a palm tree may look odd together though...
Wow! What a lot to cover in only one article! And that's just the half of it! Look out for next weeks article where we will discuss the use for hills, ponds, and statues in your yard!

Some Possibilities

The news staff and WeAreSim staff are constantly thinking of new things! If you are a returning reader, you will notice that this page is one of the 3 new pages added to the paper. This page is for tips and tricks as well as stories involving the home and garden aspect of The Sims 2.
Another thing you may soon find on this page will be a link to an extraordinary or featured home. We are still under the process of creating a downloads center for WeAreSim and therefore have no homes to feature.
However, if you are the admin of a site that has downloads and would be okay if we featured some homes here on this page please notify Bologna at WeAreSim@yahoo.com or by some other means! We greatly appreciate it! Plus it's good publicity for your site/downloads.
We will also accept links to sim pages with homes on them to feature on this page!
